Travel Information

Group Flights

The New York City Scholars program offers a group flight for students to travel with their peers to and from their New York City location at the beginning and end of the program. Upon their arrival to New York City, students on the group flight will be guided through our arrival transport support process to the student residence. At the end of the program, all students will depart independently with support and guidance from NU New York City support staff.

More group flight information, including reservation forms and itineraries, will be provided through your Application Status Check once they are available.

The cost of a group flight is included in your program fee.

For flight or itinerary questions, contact Advantage Travel at +1.315.471.2222 or [email protected].

Individual Travelers

If a student does not take the group flight option, they are responsible for your travel arrangements to and from New York City at the beginning and end of the program.

To ensure the safety of all participants, all individual travelers must provide the New York City Scholars program team with the details of their travel itineraries. Students will receive an Individual Traveler Information Collection form in late June where they will be able to submit their travel itineraries, as well as opt into arrival transport support to the New York City campus.

Students who do not take any segment of the group flight will receive a flight credit posted to their fall bill, equal to the average cost of one round-trip group flight ticket. If you fly any segment of the group flight, the credit does not apply.

New York City Scholars students traveling separately must arrange their own transportation to their student residence and arrive on-location on the program start date. Early check-in will not be available.

Real ID Information

All New York City Scholars who are traveling independently should travel with a passport or a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or other state photo identity card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

As of May 7, 2025, state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs that are not REAL ID compliant are no longer accepted as valid forms of identification at airports.

To confirm whether an ID complies with REAL ID, check with the local state department of motor vehicles. For more information on acceptable identification, visit the TSA website.

Students under age 18 (considered a minor) should consult with their airline for recommendations on other acceptable documents to have when flying.
