Housing
The New York City Scholars Program is a residential program. New York City Scholars are required to live in university-assigned accommodations that are contracted through the Northeastern University New York City Housing team.
Important
Should a student book an accommodation with any housing providers, Northeastern is unable to support any return of funds or deposits and the students’ program fee will not be refunded.
New York City Scholars will be living in FOUND Study-Turtle Bay, located at 525 Lexington Avenue, during their first year in New York. This private student accommodation is a 35-story high-rise that is currently home to more than 300 current Northeastern University New York City students, along with students from other colleges in New York City.
Getting to Campus
The residence hall is located within Midtown East. New York City Scholars can take public transportation, either the subway or bus, to travel to the main campus. However, many students choose to walk. The program will provide a partial refund to students to serve as a transit credit for the year.
Amenities
The accommodations are modern and stylish, and include spacious and well-lit study spaces, communal spaces for hanging out with friends, and a state-of-the-art gym and laundry room.
Students will be living in doubles or triples, with a provided full-sized refrigerator and microwave, and an in-unit bathroom. Most importantly, all accommodations have 24/7 building On-Site Staff and Security.
Support Onsite
-
Student Success Coordinators (SSCs)
Each student will be assigned to a Student Success Coordinator, who is a full-time professional staff member. SSCs host events, dinners, and regular check-ins with students throughout the year.
-
24/7 On-Call Support
Students are provided an on-call emergency number to use throughout their time in the New York City Scholars program.
Community and Activities
One of the highlights of the New York City Scholars program is the excursions. Our staff accompanies students on weekend and day trips throughout the year, highlighting many different themes including architecture, history, environmentalism, and much more! Our staff partners with an outside company EdOdyssey, to build experiences that are both engaging and informative. Our goal is to immerse our scholars into the city, and the area at large.
Every excursion is staffed by two NU staff members and two excursion leaders from our partner EdOdyssey.
Important
The program maintains an on-call staff member, for any emergency that could arise.
All meals and lodging are provided during the duration of the day and weekends these opportunities take place. These trips are included in the program fee all students pay, so students are encouraged to sign up and participate!
Personal Travel
During the program, students must complete this Personal Travel Form at least 1 week prior to their travel plans. This form should be completed for each trip students take. Failure to complete this form in a timely or accurate manner violates the Scholars Supplemental Code of Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
Northeastern University requires all students to enter their travel itinerary and housing accommodations into “My Travel Plans” on the myNortheastern student portal or by visiting the Crisis24 Horizon Portal. Students should also enter any independent travel during the year and make sure their current contact information remains updated.
More information can be found on Northeastern University’s Global Safety website.
U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to register their travel plans with the U.S. Embassy through the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. STEP is a free service that will allow the U.S. State Department to better assist citizens in the event of an emergency.
