Supporting your New York City Scholar

Families play an important role in supporting their students entering the New York City Scholars program. For many families, this will be the first time their student is in the driver’s seat, taking the lead on starting this journey into college, but we understand that families want to support their students as well.

Once students arrive on campus, parents will receive an email from program leadership with contact information, safety resources, and general information on supporting your student. We recommend reviewing this information carefully together so nothing gets missed — this website is also a reliable resource if you need to find something again.

Get Started Early with Important Conversations

Parents and guardians are encouraged to begin the process of talking with their students to explore what the adjustment to college will look like and the New York City Scholars program team will continue to partner with families to navigate it together.

Get started with conversations about budgeting, safety, and expectations for communicating with family while in New York. Other preparations like practicing life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and navigating public transportation can go a long way in helping students hit the ground running at the start of their time in New York.

First and foremost, the New York City Scholars program is the student’s experience, and the New York City Scholars program team hopes families work alongside them to allow the student the space to grow. At every step of the way, there is support in place to help guide them in having the experience of a lifetime.

Family Hub

Parents and guardians of current Northeastern University students may create an online Family Hub account, granting them access to certain content and services related to their student’s experience at the university. Depending on the level of access provided, students, parents, and guardians can review bills and transcripts online, get news and information from their student’s college, and much more.

The Family Newsletter
