The NYC Scholars Program

Make New York City Your Classroom
Welcome to the New York City Scholars program
New for fall 2025, Northeastern University students admitted to the New York City Scholars program will begin their academic journey at the Marymount Manhattan College campus in Manhattan as a cohort of fellow first-year Northeastern students in the New York City Scholars program.
Gear up to study in the financial and media capital of the world. You will be in the heart of the Big Apple during your first year in the New York City Scholars program on the Marymount Manhattan College campus, opening the door for you to collaborate with industry experts across five boroughs. During your first year, as a New York City Scholar, you can access various cultural institutions, artistic venues, and be exposed to experiential entrepreneurship opportunities that align with the city’s global influence. In your second year and beyond, NYC Scholars will study on Northeastern’s Boston campus and have the opportunity to explore other global programs.
Learn more about the New York City Scholars program by reading our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document. We will continue to update this document and page throughout the winter and spring.
New York City Scholars Location
NYC Scholars will be studying on the Marymount Manhattan College campus located in a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Just moments from landmarks such as Central Park and Times Square, you will have a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the cultural and academic heart of the city.

Program Academics
In partnership with Marymount Manhattan College, courses offered through the New York City Scholars program align with your first-year curriculum taught at Northeastern and integrate cultural learning opportunities. Each NYC Scholars class that students take will fulfill any major requirements and/or NUPath attributes (our institution-wide general education requirements for students in all majors) associated with its NU equivalent course.
As a student in NYC Scholars, you will take a full year’s worth of classes, including courses equivalent to those required for your major as well as elective courses that may span across a range of disciplines. You may be able to select alternate courses if you receive advanced credits from AP, IB, or other international examinations. Please note that not all first-year Northeastern courses will have equivalents offered through NYC Scholars. Additional information on program academics and advising is available in the NYC Scholars Program 2025-26 Academic Handbook.

Northeastern provides support at every step, no matter your path, from academic advisors who help you choose your courses to resources such as the Disability Access Services, Health and Counseling Services, and the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service. We are dedicated to your success.
New York City Scholars Program is a residential program. Scholars are required to live in University provided accommodations.
You will be living in campus-provided university housing in New York City alongside your New York City Scholars cohort. Learn all about your first-year housing, FOUND Study-Turtle Bay.
Upon successful completion of the NYC Scholars program, you and your peers will enroll at Northeastern’s Boston campus to continue your studies in your second year. You will be invited to attend orientation and receive ongoing support as you transition into academic and social life in Boston. Your experiences with the NYC Scholars program will allow you to apply a unique global perspective in the classroom and beyond.
You will be guaranteed university housing during your second year when you arrive in Boston, provided you meet the required application and deposit deadlines. Please note that university housing for all students—including students completing the NYC Scholars program—can take the form of traditional campus residence halls, leased apartments, or leased hotel spaces in the area around campus.
Admission to New York City Scholars depends on a number of factors including your major. Academic compatibility is a key requirement for any first-year program.
For more information, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by email at [email protected] or by calling +1.617.373.2200.
Fall 2025 NYC Scholars will not be eligible for federal or state aid during the first year of their program. The program is required to make advance financial commitments to travel agents, vendors, and the partner institution to secure items such as housing, classroom space, and co-curricular activities. Therefore, should you withdraw from the program at any time after May 1, you will be responsible for the terms provided within the Payment and Withdrawal Policy. You are encouraged to plan carefully and are required to review this policy as soon as possible. In this policy, you will see information on payment terms, schedule of charges, and withdrawal conditions and processes. You can read more about this policy here: 2025-2026 New York City Scholars Payment and Withdrawal Policy (the policy will also be available in your Application Status Check).
Travel Information
The New York City Scholars Program offers a group flight option for students to travel with their peers to and from their New York City Scholars location at the beginning and end of the program.
On arrival at their New York City Scholars Program location, students on the group flight will be guided through our arrival transport support process to the student residence. At the end of the program, students on the group flight will be guided from their student residence to their location’s airport.
More group flight information, including reservation forms and itineraries, will be provided through your Application Status Check once they are available.
Registration for the Fall 2025 group flight (covering the academic year from August/September 2025 through May 2026) is now open with the last date to submit the Travel Preference form and Advantage Travel’s Registration form being June 12, 2025. Official group flight confirmations will be emailed by Advantage Travel after registration closes. Final tickets will be emailed approximately three weeks prior to departure.
As a group flight participant, you will not receive a group flight credit on your student account during Fall 2025 semester, since the group flight cost is included in the program fees.
If you have flight or travel itinerary questions, please call Advantage Travel at +1.315.471.2222 or email our Advantage Travel Representative at [email protected].
Please review the guidelines on the airline website for more specific details on the baggage allowance of the group flight airline. It is your responsibility to confirm the luggage policies of your airline(s).
If you do not take the group flight option, you are responsible for your travel arrangements to and from their New York City Scholars Program location at the beginning and end of the program.
To ensure the safety of all participants, all individual travelers must provide New York City Scholars with the details of their travel itineraries. Students will receive an Individual Traveler Information Collection form in late June where they will be able to submit their travel itineraries, as well as opt into arrival transport support to the New York City campus.
All New York City Scholars who are traveling independently are recommended to travel with a passport or a REAL ID-compliant drivers license or other state photo identity cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
As of May 7, 2025, state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs that are not REAL ID compliant are no longer accepted as valid forms of identification at airports.
If you are not sure if your ID complies with REAL ID, check with your state department of motor vehicles. For more information on acceptable identification, visit the TSA website.
Students under age 18 (considered a minor) should consult with their airline for recommendations on other acceptable documents to have when flying.
Students who do not take any segment of the group flight will receive a flight credit. This credit will be posted to the student’s fall bill and will be equal to the average cost of one round-trip group flight ticket. If a student flies any segment of the group flight, they will not receive a credit. New York City Scholars students traveling separately must arrange their own transportation to their student residence and arrive on-location on the program start date (early check in will not be available).
You are encouraged to research whether you would like additional insurance that covers the costs of trip interruption or cancellation, as well as loss of baggage or personal belongings while traveling or living in residence halls.
Northeastern University requires all students to enter their travel itinerary and housing accommodations into “My Travel Plans” on the myNortheastern student portal or by visiting the Crisis24 Horizon Portal. You should also enter any independent travel during the semester and make sure your contact information remains updated.
More information can be found on Northeastern University’s Global Safety website.
U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to register their travel plans with the U.S. Embassy through the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. STEP is a free service that will allow the U.S. State Department to better assist citizens abroad in the event of an emergency.
During the program, please complete this Personal Travel Form at least 1 week prior to your travel plans. This form should be completed for each trip you take. Make sure that you provide accurate details for all information requested. Failure to complete this form in a timely or accurate manner violates the N.U.in/Scholars Supplemental Code of Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
